Abstract

Akses terhadap air bersih yang aman secara mikrobiologis merupakan faktor penting dalam menjaga kesehatan masyarakat. Protozoa di perairan dapat berperan sebagai indikator kualitas lingkungan dan berpotensi mencerminkan kondisi sanitasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi morfologi protozoa pada berbagai sumber air di sekitar kampus Politeknik Muhammadiyah Makassar. Penelitian menggunakan desain deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel air diambil dari enam sumber, yaitu air bak mandi, kolam ikan, selokan, kanal, air keran, dan air galon, masing-masing sebanyak 500 mL, kemudian diperiksa menggunakan metode sedimentasi dan observasi mikroskopis dengan tiga kali replikasi. Identifikasi dilakukan berdasarkan karakteristik morfologi menggunakan referensi atlas parasitologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 66,67% sampel mengandung protozoa. Protozoa yang teridentifikasi meliputi Amoeba spp., Paramecium spp., Stentor, Radiolaria, dan Euglena viridis, dengan distribusi tertinggi pada sumber air terbuka seperti kolam ikan, selokan, dan kanal. Tidak ditemukan protozoa pada air keran dan air galon. Protozoa yang ditemukan umumnya merupakan organisme hidup bebas yang berperan sebagai indikator beban organik lingkungan. Penelitian ini memberikan data dasar mengenai keberadaan protozoa pada sumber air di lingkungan kampus sebagai indikator kualitas mikrobiologis perairan.
